Appeal Court Confirms Sack of APC LG Chairmen in Osun, PDP Calls for End to AGF’s Vendetta, Demands Release of Withheld Allocations

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has again hailed last Friday’s judgement of the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, which the certified true copy was just brought to our attention by our team of lawyers, unequivocally affirming the final sack of the self installed All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen across local governments in the state. The party described the ruling as a clear confirmation that the APC’s claim of reinstatement was nothing but fake news lacking any legal basis all along.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the State Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, the PDP said the appellate court’s decision has finally buried the misleading narrative promoted by the opposition, insisting that the sacked APC journeymen have no mandate or standing to parade themselves as local government chairmen.

The PDP noted that with the latest judicial confirmation, there is no longer any justification for the continued withholding of local government allocations due to Osun State. It called on the Federal Government to immediately unblock the funds and allow for seamless local government administration with a view to delivering further dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

The party also issued a strong call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and call the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, to order. According to the PDP, the AGF’s persistent interference in Osun’s local government affairs smacks of personal vendetta, driven by partisan bitterness.

“Mr Fagbemi is not the only Nigerian learned silk who has lost a celebrated case before rising to national office. He must rise above personal grievance and stop using his office as a tool for vendetta against the good people of Osun who freely elected Governor Adeleke,” the statement said.

The party further urged all its duly elected local government officials to begin preparations for resumption of office, adding that Governor Adeleke will soon make a formal announcement on the specific date for their return to duty.

In the same vein, the PDP appealed to the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Osun State to begin reviewing its ongoing industrial action in light of the new judicial clarity. The party expressed confidence that once the governor announces the resumption date, the union would have sufficient basis to call off the strike.

Commending the perseverance of local government workers and the general public throughout the disruption, the PDP saluted what it called the “astute understanding and democratic maturity” of Osun people.
